FROM THE PUBLISHER
Between 1990 – 2002, acclaimed cartoonist/rock poster illustrator/writer/artist Dillon Naylor teamed up with a diverse cross-section of Australian comics artists to create an inner-city, alternative, dark comedy about five mis-fitted flatmates living in a squalid terrace house situated in the ‘hip’ mythical Melbourne suburb of Fitzkilda.
Pop Culture and Two Minute Noodles fearlessly combined sharp observation, witty banter and brutal humour, transforming half-truths and wild exaggerations into punchy short comics that accurately captured the carefree, inner-city debauchery of share-house living in the 1990s.
Come and crash an art exhibition opening to get free sparkling white, steal road signs for lounge room décor and then pass out at a wild backyard party and wake up with snails crawling over your face. Pop Culture and Two Minute Noodles takes you where other comics fear to tread. (Caution: contains mild potty mouth and adult situations).
The comics are illustrated by an impressive range of cartoonists – some just emerging at the time, others were already well-known Australian comics professionals in full stride. Look at this line-up!
Angelo Madrid • Bernard Caleo • Brendan Tolley • Bruce Mutard • Clint Cure • Danica • Dillon Naylor • Edo Fuijkschot • Eleri Harris • Glenn Smith • Greg Gates • James Paisley • Jason Towers • Jeremy MacPherson • Jo Waite • Kate Aley • Maccad • Mandy Ord • Mike Nason • Owen Heitmann • Ross Tesoriero • Ryan Vella • Stephen Dodds • Stewart McKenny • Tamara Wighton • Tim Pyman • Trudy Cooper • W. Chew Chan (with additional illustrations by Xander Black and Jason Badower).
To celebrate the 35th anniversary, these underground Australian comics pages that were previously found only in rare, handmade ‘zines and small-run newsagent comic books have been meticulously collected into one massive limited edition 285 page hardcover volume with a new wraparound colour cover… and a dust jacket illustrated by co-creator Dillon Naylor!
In addition, there are 32 pages of NEW material (all illustrated from authentic, unused 1990s scripts) along with detailed historical notes, production sketches, deleted scenes, promo materials and photos that will bring all the memories back or… if you’re discovering the comics for the first time, transport you to the rough and intriguing lost world of the recent past.
